This is the first post, so let me just be honest about what this is.
Mostly, this is a machine learning blog. It’s what I spend my days on, so expect research notes, deep dives when I’m trying to understand why something actually works, and me thinking out loud about papers and ideas I can’t shake.
But I’m not only an ML person, and I didn’t want a blog that pretends I am. So I’ll also write about the other things I care about:
- Videogames
- Music
- Books
- Movies and TV
- Philosophy
- Consciousness
- Fitness and self-improvement
If something’s interesting enough to keep me up, it’s fair game here.
Why I’m writing
I write to think clearly. It’s easy to feel like you understand something; writing it down is where you find out whether you actually do. The gaps show up the instant you try to put them into sentences, and closing those gaps is most of the point.
So treat these posts as thinking-in-progress, not verdicts. I’d rather be honestly confused in public than confidently wrong in private. If I change my mind later (and I hope I do, often), that’s the system working, not failing.
What to expect
- ML research notes and things I’m trying to understand
- Honest takes on papers, ideas, and what’s actually working
- Things I changed my mind about, and what changed it
- Videogames, music, books, movies, and TV I can’t stop thinking about
- Philosophy and consciousness, and the questions that don’t have clean answers
- Self-care, fitness, and self-improvement, and what’s actually worked for me
Posts are tagged, so if you only care about one thread (say, just the ML stuff), you can follow it and ignore the rest.
Strong opinions, loosely held. The opinions are mine; the holding is loose on purpose.
More soon.
